About Me
This is Sangram Dey. I am an ex-mariner and now a wannabe blogger. I love to write, passionate about nature and wildlife photography and also enjoy angling adventures. I spent all days of my life holding myself back from doing what I always wanted to do. I was letting life happen to me instead of for me. Although little late, but now I’m going to do everything I can to stay in course that my heart charts out for me.
My humble background and modest upbringing keep me grounded to mother earth whereas, my job entails travelling around the globe. I enjoy the little things in life and always make an attempt to freeze life’s moment and elements through my writings and photos. It is my desire to help others find some encouragement through my contributions.
I have an innate love for reading and writing. I used to write my daily journal till it changed to writing notes and memos in files. My first mini story written in regional language with my grandfathers guidance was published on the children section of the local newspaper when I was around eight years old. Subsequent publications in following years were restricted to school magazines and professional journals. Of course, few of my poetic thoughts got space in regional periodicals but somehow I couldn’t pursue them due to nature of my job.
I have passion for wildlife and nature photography and I am more of a hobbyist in this domain. Way back in 1984 my father gifted me a Hot Shot camera and I graduated to a Pentax Espio in nineties. I purchased my first digital point and shoot camera a Nikon Coolpix. Subsequently, I moved to the genre of DSLRs – first a Nikon D5200 and moved to D500 and D850.
The excitement of looking through the viewfinder and capturing the moment has however never changed in my transition from analogue to digital. That small camera that fit in my pocket has now expanded into a storage room full of photo gears. But, when people ask me what equipment I use – I tell them my eyes. To me, photography is all about finding something interesting in an ordinary place. It has very little to do with the things you see and everything to do with the way you see them.
I am coastal guy – born, brought up and more so, wander from coast to coast across seven seas view nature of my job. Angling therefore has became my second nature.
As many perceive, angling is not just about sitting around in a boat or on the bank waiting for a fish to take the bait and get hooked. It is a highly fun filled and thrilling activity which teaches one to be patient as well as attentive. Angling gives me a sense of freedom from daily hassles and stressful routines. From hooking an agile blue marline in deep sea to snap a sober barramundi in coast – it keep both mind and body engaged irrespective of skill level. Angling has always been an excuse for me to be outside closer to the nature. I feel the real catches in angling are mental repose and respect for nature.
